Mission

Supply Sales & Marketing with high quality seeds, on time and in line with Crop Plan requests for commercial and experimental hybrids

  • Assure, at any time, Parent Seeds availability for hybrid production, which means to produce ad hoc quantities of Parents Seeds per anticipation
  • Naturally this production needs to be produced at a just price, authorizing Syngenta to be competitive on the market

Organisation

There are 4 steps in the production of the corn seeds

  • Genetic maintenance
  • Parent seeds
  • Production research and experimental hybrids production
  • Commercial hybrid production

 

GENETIC MAINTENANCE

This team has to:

  • keep the genetic structure received from Breeding along the inbred life and to maintain inbred homogeneity with a high level of quality (germination and vigour)
  • provide the Parents seeds team with seeds for increase
  • Genetic maintenance is done at two locations:
  • France (Lombez) for summer season - Northern hemisphere
  • Chile for winter season

 

PARENT SEEDS

This team has to:

  • provide enough basic seeds to be able to produce commercial and experimental hybrids in accordance with the Crop plan defined by the Sales & Marketing team
  • optimize the production processes to guaranty highest quality and competitive costs
  • Three work locations:
  • Peru (Ica) for hand-pollinated increase
  • Chile and Uruguay for pre-basic increase and some specific basic increases
  • France (Lombez) for basic increases and some pre basics

 

PRODUCTION RESEARCH and EXPERIMENTAL HYBRIDS PRODUCTION

This team has to:

  • analyse inbreds in different environments to prepare the best technical advice for field production
  • give best recommendation for all step of processing: harvesting moisture, drying parameters, and sizing recommendations
  • deliver production recipes: pattern, delay male-female etc., in order to limit any difficulty
  • produce experimental hybrids (hybrids not yet registered) at a very high level of quality in line with quality standards
  • Locations:
  • France: 3 locations
  • Hungary: 2 locations
  • Italy: 2 locations

COMMERCIAL HYBRID PRODUCTION

This team has to:

  • produce the quantity planned at quality standards required for the company, using different locations, mainly in Europe, to share risks and to be as close as possible to the markets
  • produce at a just price, authorizing Syngenta to be competitive on the market
  • Locations:
  • France, Hungary, Italy, Turkey, and some new areas of Central Europe as Ukraine, Serbia or Romania.  A limited quantity of seeds can also be produced in Chile during the winter-season to fit with the needs.
